Sophie Hagans is a dedicated educator and advocate with more than 15 years of experience serving students, families, and schools throughout Florida. A Florida native, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K–6) with a dual major in Exceptional Student Education (K–12), along with endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Throughout her career, Sophie has served in a variety of educational roles, including Exceptional Student Education teacher, Charter School Dean, Florida Department of Education staff member, Compliance Program Specialist, and currently, Program Specialist for Behavior. These experiences have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the educational system from the classroom to district and state levels.

Sophie has worked extensively with students with a wide range of exceptionalities, including autism spectrum disorders, behavioral challenges, and cognitive disabilities. She has also supported schools in ensuring compliance with state and federal educational requirements, giving her unique insight into the processes that guide IEPs, 504 Plans, MTSS, evaluations, and educational decision-making.

As both an educator and a mother, Sophie understands that navigating the educational system can feel overwhelming for families. Through GPS Consulting Services, she is committed to helping parents understand their options, prepare for important meetings, advocate effectively for their children, and confidently navigate the educational process.

Sophie believes that informed, empowered families are essential partners in student success.

Advocacy philosophy

Sophie believes that parents are essential partners in their child's education. Her advocacy philosophy is rooted in collaboration, preparation, and empowerment. By helping families understand their rights, navigate complex educational processes, and communicate effectively with schools, Sophie works to ensure that every child receives the support and opportunities they need to succeed. Her goal is not only to advocate for students, but to equip families with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for their children long after services have ended.
